To make the balsa "stoppers" in the ends of the tube, I slightly sharpened the rim of the piece of tube that stuck out, and gently cut out a disc of 1/8" balsa. Then I took that disc out and put it in the other end of the tube, and used the blunt end of an exacto knife handle to get it straight and flush.
